Baby boomers are the generation born in a few years past world war II. In the 15 years after the end of war the population of north America exploded. This brought with it a wave of cultural change in US and Canada. In their twenties, the baby boomers brought with them fresh ideas of life such as more social freedom, equality between men and women and different race and of course last but not least Rock and Roll.
Many times, their actions and ideas where not accepted by the previous generation, but there was simply so many of them that nothing could be done to stop them. Eventually the baby boomers became parents themselves and started occupying high level jobs and their ideas became the default of the Western life.At each step of their age, they were the most important age group that the society had to accommodate for them, when they were in school. more teachers were needed, and when they were giving birth to their own children, a new generation of baby boomers was the fear.
No they are in the age of retirement. For years they have been the most important policy makers in the west and now they have to pass it to the next generation with a huge burden. The baby boomers are elderly adults that need ever increasingly health care and retirement homes. In these depression days that the economy is not doing well, (thank to the capitalism that they started) one of the biggest concerns is how the society is going to be able to afford pention and health care for the baby boomers. One of the only hot job markets in this depression is health care and nursing care for retired baby boomers.
We have our own baby boomers in Iran, during the 8 years of the Iran-Iraq warthe population of Iran nearly doubled. These baby boomers (including my dear Noonche and Orang) will bring with them the energy and the change that our society needs so much. They will be the ones that will be responsible enough to change our bad habit of destroying our environment. They will bring with themselves new music and art and they will be the ones who will decide what our future will be.
And I have to admit it is great to see that they care.
